Loma Linda University Medical Center hosts 1st Annual Living Donor Award Ceremony

In efforts to acknowledge those who save people’s lives by donating an organ, the Loma Linda University Medical Center hosted its first annual Living Donor Award Ceremony. The ceremony was held at the Mission Inn’s Music Room in Riverside on Thursday, January 3.

“We usually have a small event but this year we decided to have a bigger event to acknowledge those who have taken the risk to save someone else’s life,” Dr, Duane Baldwin, Living Donor program director, said. “We would like to make this an annual event, and hopefully it will inspire others to want to give.”

One of the donors who gave was Griselda Ortiz. She gave a kidney to her cousin Erika Ortiz. Griselda decided to give her kidney to her cousin out of love and she ended up being a perfect match.
