New Artist Spotlight: The McClain Sisters

If you have seen Tyler Perry‘s movie, “Daddy’s Little Girls,” then you probably remember the three little girls who were phenomenal actresses’. Those three girls are all grown up now and are emerging into the music scene. The McClain Sisters are from Los Angeles, California and formed their group in 2011. Group members consists of China Anne McClain, Sierra McClain and Lauryn McClain. The group was originally formed in 2004 as 3McClainGirls, before the changed their name and relaunched in 2011.

The sisters grew up watching Disney films such asPocahontas, and musical classics which include The Wiz, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory andAnnie. In 2004, the girls became interested in music after watching their father write and produce songs. Shortly after, they began to write, choreograph and dance. By 2005, the sisters were discovered as actresses by a music executive who heard them sing and encouraged director Rob Hardy to audition China for his 2005 feature film the Gospel, alongside Boris Kodjoe and Idris Elba. She received the character of Alexis and her sisters were in the supporting cast. In addition, the rising singers recorded their first song, “Silly Games”, and in 2006 China joined the main cast of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and Sierra made guest appearances. All three of the sisters later starred in ‘Daddy’s Little Girls‘ as the James sisters.

Since the group changed their name to McClain Sisters, they signed to Hollywood Records in June 2011 and performed a new song called “Rise” at the Mall of America in 2012. The song was the led promotional single for the Disneynature film Chimpanzee. However, in December 2013 the girls parted ways with Hollywood Records, but they are still making music. They recently released their new single, “He Loves Me” via iTunes.
